Spila cave consist of several chambers, with a total lenghtof 65 meters. Prehistoric inhabitants of Nakovana Plateau used the well-lit space near its etrance as a sheep-fold and a occasional shelter, from the early Neolithic until the Bronze Age.
Latter in history, Illyrians from the near by settlement held ritual feasts in the dark cave interior. In front of a large stalagmite, they left votive offerings like ceramic cups, plates and mini amphorae.
The senctuary was discovered in 1999. and explored during the years 2000 and 2001.
